To thrift or not to thrift

Two nights ago, it was shown in the news that thrifted stores (aka Ukay-ukay) are about to be banned in the country because (they say) purchasing second hand clothes is degrading, belittling, scornful (and all those synonyms you could ever think of). I have to DISAGREE with that (and I know it created a rage to all those affected, including me). I don't know why some people even think that way. Thrifting is actually fun. It's an adventure, like finding a gem in those racks and racks of clothes. Call me weird, but it's much more exciting than going to the mall. The bottom line is, you just have to choose right, and be patient (at bawal ang maarte). If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know how I love vintage pieces. As of now, the most cherished dresses I have are all thrifted--and they are vintage! Even my wedding dress was thrifted. But don't get me wrong. Not all my clothes are thrifted.haha..There are also a lot of shops online selling thrifted clothes. My favorite is Archive Clothing. But of course, their prices are not "ukay-ukay" anymore (but still cheap) because they had to wash, iron and even alter some of the clothes. Indeed, it's a labor of love. In fact, most fashionistas on the blogoshpere are also fond of thrifting, here and abroad.

Here are some of my favorites:
Aisa Ipac of Drowning Equilibriums, who's also the owner of Archive Clothing
Kani all the way from Australia
Keiko Lynn from U.S
and many many more..Who would have thought these lovely ladies are wearing cheap clothes?

Here's my all time favorite thrifted dress. (sorry, I know you've seen this before..hehe)

Even Drew Barrymore once flaunted a $25 thrifted dress with her $760 YSL pumps.

What about you, have you thrifted? What is your greatest thrift find?
